SAVOY, Mass. -- The Emma Miller Elementary School will hold its fourth annual Savoy Loop Race fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 10.   The event includes a 5-mile road race, 1-mile walk and kids’ fun run.   Registration is from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. with the race at 10. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North Adams SteepleCats (6-5) and the Plymouth Pilgrims (4-7) combined for 18 runs and 28 hits on Tuesday night at Joe Wolfe Field with the SteepleCats coming up on the short end of a 10-8 loss.   ‘Cats starter Peter Lannoo lasted 3-⅓ innings and surrendered seven runs off 10 hits and struck out two. Pilgrim starter Thomas Lane went four innings and gave up three runs off six hits and struck out four.   The Pilgrims got the bats going in the third inning when they scored two runs to tie the game at two. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Keland Cross scored 23 points Monday to lead the Boys and Girls Club to a 75-54 win over MCLA in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Tank Roberson added 17, and Lavante and Joe Wiggins each had 12 for MCLA.   Collin Parrott, Merle Darling and Richard Johnson each scored 12 for MCLA.   In Monday’s other game, Vern Cross scored 14, and Todd Hunt had 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead Moresi Associations/Mingo’s to a 43-36 win over Central Radio.   Dave Wellington led Central Radio with 12.   Play continues Wednesday at 6:30 with two more games in the Open Division at Noel Field.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The final tryout for the Bay State Games Western Massachusetts girls basketball team will be Wednesday, June 22, at McCann Tech from 6 to 8 p.m.   Interested players must participate in at least one tryout to be considered for the team, which will compete at the Bay State Games July 15-17 at the Reggie Lewis Center in the Boston neighborhood of Roxbury Crossing.   The team is open to all girls in ninth through 12th grades (2016 graduates welcome) who either live in Massachusetts or attend a Massachusetts school.   The cost to try out is $37. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mike Mancinvalano scored 16 points, and Andrew Harmon scored 15 to lead Frame all to a 53-51 win over Yard Work By Dan on Sunday on opening night of the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Robert Jutras scored 15 points, and Trevor Alibozek added 11 with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks for Yard Work By Dan.   In Sunday’s other games, Moonlight Diner and Dagnoli/Troiano and Sons Building each picked up wins.   Brendan Kordana scored 17 points, and Khalil Paul scored 14 to lead Moonlight Diner past the Celtics, 60-38. The Northern Berkshire Phenoms put the bow on their third season over the Father's Day weekend.   The 17-and-under team finished second in the varsity division at the inaugural Summer Heat Check Invitational tournament hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Pittsfield. The 14-and-under team kept busy too, winning the 8th-grade division in Pittsfield and losing in the semi-finals at the Basketball Summer Tip-Off Classic in Springfield.    After a short break from the winter season, the two teams hit the gym again in April to play a six-tournament schedule. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Eric Leitch went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Cages Baseball Club Under-22 team to a 7-4 win over Averill Park in the first half of a double-header on Saturday.   Averill Park came back to win Game 2, 6-5.   In the opener, Dominic DeFelice had a pair of hits, drove in three runs and stole a couple of bases for Cages.   Josh Jezouit got the win with 6-⅔ innings of work, striking out eight and allowing just two earned runs. HERKIMER, N.Y. -- The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of three errors by the Cages Baseball Club in an 11-0 win on Thursday.   Kellen Hathaway and Mike Strizzi each had a hit for Cages, which used four different pitchers. NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Newport Gulls snapped North Adams’ three-game winning streak with an 11-4 win on Wednesday in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.   Steeplecats starter Patrick Ryan lasted four innings, giving up five runs off eight hits, striking out four.
