NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Northern Berkshire Independent Youth Baseball will hold tryouts for its major division for the  2018 season for new players   Tryouts will be held Thursday, March 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 17, from 3 to 5; and Sunday, March 18, from 5 to 7.   Tryout sessions will be held at the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium on the MCLA campus.   New players are required to make one tryout session to be able to be placed in major division.   Players are asked to bring sneakers and a glove. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North Adams fifth- and sixth-grade boys travel basketball team won the Berkshire County South Division championship over the weekend by avenging its only loss of the tournament.   North Adams started its weekend by beating Sheffield before losing, 39-22 to Pittsfield’s Catholic Youth Center. LENOX, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Youth Soccer League needs referees for the 2018 season.     A new referee course will be held at the Hampton Inn in Lenox on March 18. The course costs $115.   Details can be found at https://www.massref.net/becomeref.cfm   The BCYSL has also agreed to support this initiative by reimbursing new referees for the kit that they purchase after they have officiated a total of 10 games within a calendar year.     Any inquiries should be directed to Anthony Pedolzky at assignor@BCYSL.org.

Hoosac Valley graduate Trevor Ciempa has had a successful indoor track and field campaign at Merrimack College this winter.   The Merrimack senior won the high jump, tying the school record of 2.04 meters, at the Northeast-10 Championships. His score helped the team place fourth out of 11 teams at the meet. The Greylock seventh- and eighth-grade boys travel basketball team finished its regular season with a pair of wins over the weekend.   The team will be seeded second behind Housatonic in the eight-team county tournament that gets under way Friday night in Williamstown.   Derek Paris scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Tate Kuster scored 10 for Greylock, which got a team-high 11 rebounds from Henry Art and eight points from Chase Doyle.   Lenox was led by Michael Butler with nine points; Michael Ward added six in the loss.   Paris scored 27 and was credited with 11 steals for Greylock, which got seven points from Kuster.   Ben Moulton scored 14, and
