UTICA, N.Y. -- The Utica women's basketball team placed three players in double figures as they led wire to wire in a 73-57 win over the visiting MCLA Trailblazers Thursday evening.    Utica (3-2) led early and took command on the heels of a 27-15 first quarter. They increased the margin to 46-29 at halftime and never looked back.   Petrina DeMarco ended with a game high 15 point night for the hosts.   MCLA (3-3) was paced by Samantha Gawron's 13 point night.  She added 3 rebounds and 3 steals.  L'Rae Brundige added 12 points.   The Trailblazers were hurt by the Pioneers off the glass as they were outrebounded 43-30. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The McCann Tech basketball team will host its second annual Hoop Shoot on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school.   The free throw competition is open to boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 with three age group divisions.   The entry fee is $5 per child with all proceeds going to the Northern Berkshire Santa Fund.   The winners will be recognized at midcourt before a McCann Tech varsity game and receive a trophy.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA women's basketball team placed four players in double figures and forced 30 turnovers as they won their third straight contest with a convincing 63-37 win over Mount Holyoke this evening in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.   The Trailblazers are now 3-1 on the season while the Lyons fall to 0-6 overall.   MCLA (3-1) outscored Mount Holyoke in every quarter and were paced by Kylah Langston's 14-point effort. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA has announced the interim hiring of Ashley Ciepiela and Amanda Meczywor as co-head coaches of the Trailblazer Softball program.   The pair previously were hired as assistant coaches this offseason. Ciepiela and Meczywor will replace Erica Li, who took another position last month.   Both coaches are no strangers to MCLA Athletics. Ciepiela served as an assistant coach at nearby Southern Vermont College last season while Meczywor was an all conference standout and a member of the 2015 MASCAC Championship team at MCLA. AMHERST, Mass. -- The MCLA men's basketball team, behind the duo of Drury graduate Hayden Bird and Mike Demartinis, rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Framingham State 90-81 in non league action Saturday afternoon in the Ken Wright Invitational consolation round.     The Rams (1-2) led comfortably at halftime 51-40 behind Manny Payton's solid play. COBLESKILL, N.Y. -- MCLA senior Courtney Pingelski scored 21 of her game best 23 points in the pivotal second half as the Trailblazers pulled away from host SUNY Cobleskill, 65-46, in women's basketball action on Wednesday.   Pingelski was assessed a pair of fouls in the first quarter and scored just two points, but MCLA (1-1) led 26-23 at halftime. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA's Megan Richardson was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday following a vote of the league's coaches.    Richardson (first team) joins teammates Kayla Baker (first team) and Cetera Moore (second team) as All Conference players.   Worcester State's Ali Maldonado was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Year while Bridgewater State's Delaney Langton was selected as the rookie of the year.  Yasmina Carvalho of BSU was the Champion's Choice coach of the year.   Richardson, a graduate of Hoosac Valley, is no stranger to the All Conference team as she's been selected for the third straight season.
