NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Brian Cole won Saturday's Humane Race 5-kilometer race in a time of 17 minutes, 37.5 seconds.   Cole, 28, ran mile pace of 5:43 to cross the finish line nearly two minutes ahead of the rest of the field in the event, which benefits Berkshire Humane Society.   April Varellas, 35, defended her women's title and finished second overall in 19:23.82.   This was the first year the race moved from Williamstown to North Adams.   More than 100 competitors finished the race, ranging in age from 16 to 69.

SALEM, Mass. -- The MCLA baseball team split a double-header at Salem State on Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 5-2 before dropping the nightcap, 11-0.   In the first game, Drury graduate Logan Rumbolt went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Wahconah grad Tyler Cowdrey drove in a pair of runs.   Taconic’s Liam Nolan went the distance to earn the win, striking out 10, walking one and scattering eight hits over eight innings.   In Game 2, Rumbolt went 2-for-3 and Cowdrey had a hit, but the Trailblazers managed just five hits combined.   Bobby New (Pittsfield), Brandon Condon (Mount Greylock) and Schuyler Robinson (Drury) each pitched in the

WORCESTER, Mass. – The MCLA baseball team totaled 14 runs in two games to defeat the Lancers of Worcester State twice by scores of 7-1 in a Saturday afternoon Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader.    In Game 1, the Trailblazers scored seven runs on nine hits from five players.   The Lancers made three fielding errors in the first inning, which led to one unearned run.
