NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Westfield State women's lacrosse team scored the final five goals of the first half and cruised for the remainder of the game, handing the MCLA Trailblazers a 15-2 defeat in MASCAC action at Shewcraft Field on Saturday.

In the opening half of play, the Owls (11-4, 5-0 MASCAC) scored the first three goals as three different players found the net. Alexa Tonelli scored the game's first goal, while Sydney Lambert and Lucy Barrett would convert to give the Owls a 3-0 lead. MCLA's Tanelle Ciempa cut into that deficit when she scored off a nice spin move with 18:23 remaining to make it 3-1.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA baseball team erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to a 10-3 win over Elms College Thursday afternoon at Joe Wolfe Field.

The Trailblazers snapped a 12-game skid as they improved to 4-18 on the season.  Elms dropped to 27-10 on the season.

Nate Alibozek (Hoosac Valley) earned the win going a season best 5 innings to improve to 1-2.  Andrew Casteel also had a season high three hits in the game.

MCLA wasted little time getting to Elms starting pitcher Anthony Palumbo. The Trailblazers pounded out seven hits in the inning to take control. Liam Nolan (Taconic) belted a two run home run to start the scoring for MCLA.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The second weekend of the season saw a mixture of results for Soccer Domain Academy teams as they went 1-2-2 in a weekend that included four home games.

 

It was a glorious day for soccer in the Berkshires with four SDA teams scheduled home games at Berkshire Community College and one visiting GPS Metro Reds.

 

The first game of the day saw the U13 girls host NEFC. A very positive start from the girls saw SDA go 2-0 up. The first goal came in the sixth minute with a good finish from the edge of the box. BOSTON — Leatrice S. Finck of West Stockbridge finished 41st in her division at Monday's Boston Marathon.

Finck, 60, ran a time of 4 hours, 1 minute, 44 seconds over the 26.2-mile course at the world's oldest marathon. There were 358 women aged 60 to 64 competing in the race.

The top time among Berkshire County finishers at the event was 2:59:01, turned in by Lanesborough's Logan Wilson, 21, who finished 1,312th overall and 961st in his age group.

Lemi Berhanu Hayle and Atsede Baysa of Ethiopia won the individual titles, finishing in 2:12:45 and 2:29:19, respectively.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA softball team got an eight- inning shutout from senior Rachel Quackenbush to defeat the Fitchburg State Falcons 1-0 in game one of a MASCAC twinbill on Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons turned the tides in game two, shutting out the Trailblazers 3-0 to earn the split.  

The Trailblazers (9-13, 3-3) and Falcons (10-12, 4-2) engaged in an old-fashioned pitchers duel in the opener. Quackenbush went toe to toe with FSU's Kaylee Sylvestre. Each pitcher went the distance and MCLA finally broke through in the eighth inning to earn the win.

BENNINGTON, Vt. -- Southern Vermont College women’s soccer team will host a Spring Soccer ID Clinic for girls in grades 9 through 12 on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Under the direction of coach Michael Zauzig, the one-day, five-hour clinic will focus on skill development and instruction with tactical training and small-sides games. Assistant coach Shawnee Webster and members of the women’s soccer team will assist with the clinic.

Participants should bring cleats, weather-appropriate clothing, water bottle, shinguards and indoor shoes in case of inclement weather. The cost is $40 per person, which includes lunch and a T-shirt.

SALEM, Mass. -- The Salem State and MCLA softball teams split a MASCAC doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in a makeup from April 2.   The Trailblazers took the first game, 7-3, in eight innings before the Vikings rebounded with a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory in game two.   In Game One, Rachael Quackenbush (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs and Abby Lucas hit a bases loaded double in the eighth that drove in three runs to propel MCLA to victory   MCLA (8-9) travels to Bay Path on Tuesday.

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. --  The Framingham State baseball team homered three times in the top of the seventh inning to overpower MCLA 7-2 in the opening game of a twinbill played at the New England Baseball Complex.

Framingham State's Jonathan Chapman and Ryan Wardwell launched back to back home runs in the top of the seventh breaking a 2-2 tie, and Kyle Pileski drilled a three run shot for some breathing room.

Starting pitcher Zach Kirby made it stand as the Rams as he struck out 12 Trailblazers and set them down 1-2-3 in the seventh. The game was moved to this location due to unplayable field conditions at MCLA.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — MCLA's Natalie Caney scored with 33 seconds left to send the game to overtime, and Erin McNulty netted the game winner, lifting the Trailblazers past Southern Vermont, 14-13, at Shewcraft Field on Wednesday.

The final score was the only time MCLA led in the contest as they improve their record to 3-4.

 

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Bennington, Vt., but was moved south due to unplayable field conditions.

 

With 15:49 left in the second half, SVC's Mel Orrell converted a free position shot giving the Mountaineers a 12-9 advantage. From there, MCLA outscored the visitors, 4-1, to send the game into OT. The run was started when
