NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The MCLA lacrosse team wrapped up its home schedule with a 19-7 loss to Fitchburg State on Wednesday.   The game was relatively close in the first half as a Rebecca Pike goal with seven minutes to go in the first half cut the Falcon lead to 4-3.   Fitchburg jumped out 2-0 on goals by Andrea Comeau and Ali Laferriere just four minutes into the game. The Trailblazers (4-8, 0-6) would respond as Natalie Caney and Pike scored back to back, the latter coming off a feed from Caney to a cutting Pike.   The Falcons started to control the play at the end of the half and a Samantha Bontempo goal took Fitchburg into the break with a 7-4 lead.   The Falcons

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The MCLA baseball team earned a split with the Bridgewater State Bears on Tuesday.   Todd Hunt scattered six hits and three walks as he threw a complete game 1-0 shutout of the Bears. Bridgewater had runners on in every inning but the fourth, but Hunt never allowed a runner to reach third base all day.   MCLA scored its only run of the day in the third off Bears starter David Holmes. They did the damage with two outs; Alon Willing singled, Mike Sullivan followed with a single and Willing went to third. BOSTON -- Lee's Matt Kinnaman ran the best time, and Williamstown's Hank Art had best divisional finish among a contingent of 12 Berkshire County residents who finished Monday's 119th running of the Boston Marathon.   Kinnaman covered the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 14 minutes, 19 seconds for a mile pace of 7:25.   That time was good for 5,618th overall among 30,000 runners participating in this year's race.   Kinnaman, 54, placed 281st in his age group.   The top age group finisher from Berkshire County on Monday was Art, 70, who placed 41st in his age group in a time of 4:21:22 (9:59 pace).   Seven men and seven women from the county posted times

HOMAS, Maine - The MCLA men's tennis team came into Sunday's match at Thomas needing a win to secure their first ever NAC playoff berth.   The Trailblazers, however, couldn't keep pace with the Terriers, dropping a 9-0 decision in the conference finale for both teams. MCLA is now 4-6 overall and ends the season at 2-4 in league play.    Thomas clinched the third seed in next week's playoffs with the win as they improved to 9-6 overall and end at 4-2 in conference play.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The MCLA softball team swept the visiting team Mass. Maritime Buccaneers with a pair of shutouts Saturday afternoon at the Williams College complex.   The Trailblazers have bumped their record to 9-15 and are now 6-2 in conference. The Buccaneers dropped to 2-10 in their season and are 0-10 in conference.   Amanda Meczywor earned both shutouts in today's doubleheader. BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Southern Vermont College baseball team scored in five of its eight trips to the plate Wednesday afternoon as the Mountaineers defeated visiting Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 10-4, in non-conference play.   The victory improves SVC's overall record to 10-9 while the Trailblazers fall to an even 9-9 with the loss.   After MCLA took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth, the Mountaineers were able to keep the visitors from crossing the plate for the rest of the game as SVC tacked up three in the fourth, two in the sixth and another pair in the seventh for the win.   Southern Vermont is back at it on Thursday as the Mountaineers visit Bard

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The MCLA men's tennis team swept the doubles matches on their way to a 6-3 win over Becker College in a match played at Berkshire West in Pittsfield on Saturday afternoon.   With the win, the Trailblazers earned their first victory of the season and improve to 1-4 overall. FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Behind six goals from senior Zoe Reilly, the Framingham State University women's lacrosse team defeated MCLA ,16-4, in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

With the win, the Rams improve to 4-2 on the year and are 2-0 in the conference, while the loss drops the Trailblazers to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the MASCAC.

 

Senior Rebecca Pike accounted for the Trailblazers lone goal in the first half when she converted a free position shot that tied the game at 1-1 with just more than 25 minutes left in the opening half.
