WORCESTER, Mass. -- The MCLA baseball team rallied from a 9-0 seventh-inning deficit to force extra innings against Fitchburg State, however the Falcons scored twice in the eighth inning to claim an 11-0 win first game of Monday’s double-header.   In the nightcap, the Falcons rallied from a 5-3 deficit to tie the game at 5-5 after six frames before the game was called due to darkness.   With the results of the bizarre doubleheader, the Falcons are now 6-10-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the MASCAC.  MCLA is now 8-7-1 overall and is 1-2-1 in the conference.   The Falcons jumped all over the Trailblazers in the opener as they seemed destined to cruise to a 9-0 win. Kids Place Holds Annual Benefit Race on Saturday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire County Kids' Place will hold its annual Champions Against Child Abuse 5k and 1 Mile Color Fun Run on Saturday, April 7.

The 5K race begins at 10 a.m. at the Kids' Place offices at 63 Wendell Ave. Registration for the 5K is $25 for adults and $20 for children 15 and under. The 1 Mile Color Fun Run kicks off at 11 a.m. Registration for that event is $20 for adults and $15 for children between the ages of 5 and 15. Runners that want to participate in both events receive a $5 discount of both races combined ($40 for adults/$30 for children).

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA senior right-hander Liam Nolan was selected as the MASCAC Pitcher of the Week after not allowing a run in two appearances for the Trailblazers.    Nolan was joined on the weekly honor sheet by a pair of Westfield State Owls. WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Liam Nolan's complete game shutout and Logan Rumbolt's clutch hit lifted the Trailblazers to a 2-0 win over Framingham State in the MASCAC opener for both teams.   The Rams earned a split by taking game two in convincing fashion as they defeated MCLA 10-5.   The Trailblazers are now 7-6 overall and 1-1 in league play. NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's lacrosse program outscored visiting MCLA 7-0 in the second half as they broke open a tie game at halftime to earn a 14-7 win over the Trailblazers Wednesday afternoon.   The Trailblazers fell behind early as Mitchell took a 4-0 lead out of the gates just three minutes into the game. NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The MCLA men's tennis program opened its 2018 season Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 loss at Norwich University.   The Trailblazers dropped all three doubles matches to dig a hole. Aaron Goldsmith and Jared Freeman fell 8-2 in the top doubles slot, while Norwich (2-1) earned 8-0 wins in the other two matches heading into singles play.   MCLA fell in straight sets in all the singles matches as well. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- MCLA's Mckenzie Cutler scored eight goals in leading the Trailblazers to a season opening 17-12 win over visiting Dean College Saturday afternoon at sunny Shewcraft Field.   Cutler got MCLA (1-0) on the board in the opening minute of play as she tallid off a Rachel Green assist for an early 1-0 lead. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city has awarded the splash park project design bid to Berkshire Design Group Inc. and construction could begin this summer.    Director of Community Development Larysa Bernstein on Monday updated the Parks and Recreation Commission on Monday about the new project at Noel Field Athletic Complex.   "They are working on the design now and their plan is to start construction in the late summer and finish by June 30 of 2019," Bernstein said.     The city received $400,000 through a Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities grant.
