HARTFORD, VT. —For the third time this year, the SteepleCats have learned very well why there’s the saying “It ain’t over till it’s over”.

In their first of three matchups over the next five days, the SteepleCats traveled up to Maxfield Sports Complex on Wednesday to take on the Upper Valley Nighthawks. After North Adams was just out away from a big division win, the Nighthawks pulled off some 9th inning heroics to defeat the SteepleCats 5-4.

In his seventh appearance on the mound for North Adams, Chris Cepeda manned the hill for the SteepleCats at the start of the game. After escaping a bases-loaded jam in the 1st, the Nighthawks were able to strike

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Jake Flynn was on fire, and the Post 68 bats were red hot as the team opened sectional tournament play with a 12-1 win over Wilbraham on Pellerin Field at Clapp Park on Wednesday night.   Flynn cruised through five innings of work, allowing just one hit and striking out nine, and Ian Benoit launched a two-out, three-run double to right center to end the game via the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth.   Post 68 stays in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination phase of the tournament and will go to Greenfield on Thursday night.   Flynn was the story on Wednesday, not allowing a baserunner through the first three innings and retiring the side

Anthony Pettingill and Shirley Vallieres, both of North Adams, check out a big piece of baseball history on Tuesday afternoon.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The players on this year's North Adams SteepleCats are too young to really remember the frustration that preceded the Boston Red Sox' 2004 World Series Championship.   But that did not stop them from being a little awestruck in the presence of history.   On Tuesday, the team stopped by the "One Country, One Game: A Celebration of Baseball" exhibit on Main Street to see the 2004 World Series trophy, which was on loan by the team for the day. Originally, the team had announced it would be sending the

MONTPELIER, VT. —If there has been one needle in the side of the SteepleCats this season, it would have to be falling into early game deficits.

In between home games, the SteepleCats took a road trip up to Montpelier Monday Night to take on their division rivals in the Vermont Mountaineers. With the Mountaineers jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the SteepleCats came close to coming back but eventually came up short as the Mountaineers’ offense held off North Adams for a 10-5 victory.

A usual relief pitcher, Jeff Hayner made his first start on the mound for North Adams in Monday’s contest. The Mountaineers took advantage of this quickly as Benjamin Bavly roped a triple
