NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- After a sluggish start, the MCLA volleyball team pulled away from visiting Cobleskill, defeating the Fighting Tigers, 3-1, Tuesday in the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The Fighting Tigers (8-15) took it to the Trailblazers in the opening set cruising to a 25-19 victory. The second set was tight throughout until MCLA (9-17) pulled away late to even things up with a 25-18 set win knotting it at 1-1. From there, MCLA took over winning the crucial third set 25-12 and rolling 25-7 in the clinching fourth. Sara LaFreniere was outstanding for MCLA collecting a match best 12 kills on 28 attacks. CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- The 1X Lacrosse seventh- and eighth-grade travel team recently went 3-0 at the Shenendehowa Fall Brawl Lacrosse Tournament. More than 85 players competed for the 1X program this fall. Taconic’sand Wahconah’s are among their team’s leaders as freshmen at Endicott College this fall. Whiteley is second on the team in rushing with 19.1 yards per game, and Genaway is second in receiving yards per game with 31.3 ypg for the 1-6 Gulls. Whiteley scored his first career touchdown on a 3-yard run in a 31-26 loss to MIT earlier this month. SALEM, Mass. -- Mayele Malango and Nahuel Aligbay each recorded a goal and a pair of assists as Salem State used four second half scores to defeat MCLA, 4-0, in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon. A scoreless first half yielded minimal scoring chances as MCLA (5-10, 2-4) played conservative, keeping extra defenders back to help limit Salem State offensively. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Husson University the top four individual spots at Berkshire Hills Country Club as the Eagles cruised to the 2017 North Atlantic Conference Men's Golf championship Monday afternoon. The Eagles shot a solid 298 Monday to finish the 36-hole event with a cumulative score of 301. Salem State finished in second place with a two day total of 327. Husson's Gavin Dugas was medalist as he held off teammate Daulton Wickenden with a two day total of 147 (3-over). Dugas shot a second-round 73 as did Wickenden. FITCHBURG, Mass. -- MCLA's Kaylyn Holliday converted in the 35th minute and Trailblazer goalkeeper Megan Richardson (Hoosac Valley) pitched a shutout in leading the women's soccer team to a 2-0 road win over Fitchburg State in MASCAC action this afternoon. The win marked the third straight for MCLA as it improves to 3-8 on the season and 2-3 in the conference. The Falcons drop to 4-11 overall and are 1-5 in the MASCAC. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA women's soccer team scored twice in the final 14 minutes and Kayla Baker drilled the game winner as the Trailblazers rallied past the visiting Framingham State Rams 2-1 Saturday afternoon in MASCAC play. With the win, the Trailblazers' second straight, they improve to 2-8 overall and is now 1-3 in the league. The Rams drop to 2-8-1 overall and are 0-4 in the conference. The Rams outshot MCLA 32-6, however the Trailblazers made the most of their opportunities.
