Peter Louis Rancatti Sr.

Peter Louis Rancatti Sr., 94, of 102 Harding Ave. died Monday at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, following a brief illness.

Born in the Hoosac Tunnel section of the town of Florida on Sept. 22, 1908, son of Louis and Rena Maria Papavero Rancatti, he moved to North Adams as a child with his family and was educated in local schools.

Mr. Rancatti was employed with the former Sprague Electric Co. on Marshall Street for 23 years, retiring as foreman of the pipe shop in 1973. He was first employed as a pipefitter at the former Arnold Print Works and later worked as a salesman with the former C.H. Cutting Clothing Store.

He was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the Sprague Retirees.

His wife, the former Helen Margaret Viens, whom he married July 20, 1931, died March 5, 1988.

He leaves two sons, Peter L. Rancatti Jr. of North Adams and Donald E. Rancatti of Hancock; a brother, Charles Rancatti of North Adams, four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Peter L. Rancatti Sr. will be tomorrow, Feb. 5, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Center by the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 9 until the time of the funeral. Survivors include four grandchildren, Donna Marie Richardson of North Adams, Jan Christopher of Heartwellville, Vt., Ronald Eric Rancatti of Adams and Tara Fortin of Hinsdale, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Angelo Rancatti, sisters Mary Lazzeri and Lena Kerr, and grandson James Martin.
