Eileen O'Grady,77

January 13, 2021

Eileen Corinne O’Grady, 77, of North Adams, MA died on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. She was born in Tampa, FL on November 30, 1943, a daughter of the late Charles Vincent O’Grady Sr. and Mildred Cecelia (Vanier) O’Grady. She came to North Adams as a child with her family where she attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School and Drury High School where she graduated with the Class of 1962. After graduation she attended Elms College. Her employment began at Wall Streeter Shoe Company until they ceased operation. She then worked as a bakery supervisor for Shop Well, Big Y and Stop and Shop. She also worked as a payroll and billing clerk at Eagle Lumber Company in Stamford, VT. Eileen continued her work as the recreational therapist at Sweetbrook Nursing Home and was the activities coordinator at North Adams Commons and also worked as a caregiver for Home Instead.



Eileen was a very active member of the North Adams community. She was the coordinator of the COTY Youth Center and served on its Board of Directors. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and an advisory board member and volunteer of Helping Hands. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 125 Auxiliary as well as a member of the Greylock Club. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph.



Eileen loved social networking, allowing her to keep up with her many friends. She also enjoyed movies, board games, road trips and spending time with her family.



Survivors include her devoted daughter, Stephanie Junette O’Grady - Jackson and her husband, whom she loved like a son, Robert John Jackson of Mitchell, IN; a brother, Charles Vincent O’Grady Jr. and his wife, Carol; a sister, Mildred Marcella O’Grady-Morin and her husband, David. She also leaves her longtime friend, Sr. Eunice Tassone, SSJ. She was predeceased by a nephew, Charles Vincent O’Grady III who died in 1972.



FUNERAL NOTICE: A Private Liturgy of Christian Burial for Eileen O’Grady will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in the Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Haiti Plunge Inc. in Eileen's memory. The organization has set up the Eileen O'Grady Memorial Fund which will provide micro-loans for women to start small business in their villages. My sincere condolences to her daughter and brother Chuck that I hung around with many yrs ago. She was a kind and sweet person even though I hadn't seen her in many years. She did invite me to dinner at the place she lived in at the time and we had a nice time together. R I P Eileen, God need a sweet angel so he picked you.
