NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Marlene Dean, 82 years young, died peacefully Monday, August 5, 2019, in her home on Birchwood Terrace, North Adams.
Marlene was blessed with years of good health and a youthful spirit. Her infectious laughter, spunky sparkly personality, and love of songs are just a few of the many things we will miss. Marlene was witty and sassy. She gave the best hugs. Whether it was Christmas or a day in July, she loved Christmas songs and would treat us to her rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
She was passionate about life, and enjoyed every holiday, parties and celebrations. In her younger years, she loved to dance and would be the first on the dance floor. She was a competitor in many Special Olympic Events and was proud of her collection of bowling trophies. She liked day trips with her family, house mates and friends visiting the mountains, Mohawk Trail gift shops and going to local community concerts.
Marlene worked for many years in the NoBARC, Incentive Community Enterprise's and BFAIR employment programs. She performed production work, cleaning and some restaurant work at St Joseph's Court.
Marlene grew up in Adams. Family stories passed on through the years, suggest that she is an ancestor to Susan B. Anthony. She is predeceased by Mary Lou and Bob Arnold, her sister and brother-in-law. She leaves her many friends at BFAIR, Lance and Judy, her house mates, and Joe, her loving boyfriend. She was loved and well cared for by many over the years.
During the last two weeks, Hospice Nurses and the BFAIR staff at her Birchwood Home tended to her every need.
Funeral notice: On Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, Wellington Funeral Home in Pittsfield will host a viewing hour from noon to 1 p.m. before a graveside service at the Maple Street Cemetery on Maple Street, Adams.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested through the Wellington Funeral Home, 220 East Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 to Hospice Care of the Berkshires or Berkshire Family and Individual Resources (BFAIR).
