NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joan Frances (Martin) Mahar, 88, of North Adams, Mass., died on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Williamstown Commons.
She was born in North Adams, Mass., on October 8, 1929, a daughter of the late Howard and Julia (Rokowski) Martin. She attended local schools. She was employed at Sprague Electric Company until her retirement in 1992, after working there for 45 years.
Joan loved her home and her flowers. She loved vacations with her family, BBQs, and holiday dinners. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church.
She was the widow of Clifford E. Mahar, whom she married on April 24, 1948, at St. Francis of Assisi Church. He died on September 24, 2010.
She leaves her family, whom she loved and lived for, including her daughter Marcia MacDonald and her husband, David, of Adams, Mass.; sons Clifford "Rusty" Mahar Jr. and his wife, Heather, of Cheshire, Mass., and Robert W. Mahar of North Adams; grandchildren Tracey MacDonald and her longtime companion, Duane Congelton, Robert MacDonald, Gavin, Nathan and Connor Mahar; great-grandson Duane Congelton Jr.; and nieces and nephews.
She also leaves her neighbors who were so good to her and watched over her, including Missy and David Richards; Bob and Carol Lemaire; Dick and Sandy Sheldon; and Jeff and Sue Cellana; as well as friends Alice Vigna and Caroline Lord.
She was predeceased by her sister Lorraine (Rainy) Andrew, whom she loved and missed very much.
Funeral notice: At her request there will be no calling hours or services.

What a pleasure it has been, knowing Joan for so many years. Her needs in life were so simple and unselfish. Her family, home, good friends and neighbors were the highlights of her existence.
