Donald R. Richardson, 91

August 13, 2018


NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Donald Robert Richardson, 91, of North Adams, Mass., died on Monday, August 13, 2018, at his home.



He was born in North Adams, Mass., on June 4, 1927, a son of the late Walter and Irene (Jones) Richardson. He attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School Trade School. He went on to work as a salesman for Sprague Electric for many years. Donald was a decorated veteran of WWII, where he served as a Corporal in the US Army Air Force.



Donald was a member of the Williamstown American Legion, the Greylock Community Club and the North Adams Lodge of Masons. He enjoyed bowling and golfing, and spending his summers at his lake house at Lake St. Catherine. He was a member of All Saints Church in North Adams.



He was the widower of Doris Elizabeth (Allen) Richardson, whom he married on September 2, 1950. She died on December 15, 2014.



Survivors include his son, David Richardson and his companion, Michele LeBlue, of North Adams, Mass.; daughter Donna Sawyer and her husband, John, of North Adams, Mass.; five grandchildren, David Sawyer, Jeromy and Jason Richardson, Rebecca Johnson and Brianna Richardson; nine great-grandchildren; and cousins Debbie Tatro, Robin Coody and Laurie Boucher.



He was predeceased by his brother, Walter Richardson; and his sister, Barbara Coody.



Funeral notice: A funeral service to celebrate the life of Donald Richardson will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 6 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, Mass. Calling hours will take place from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.



Burial with full military honors will take place on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, in the family plot at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires.
