Mildred G. Manson, 97

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Former North Adams City Clerk Mildred Grace (Roberts) Manson, 97, of North Adams, Mass., died on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox. 



She was born on November 28, 1920 a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (O’Neil) Roberts. She attended local schools and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School with the class of 1938. Mildred went on to work as the assistant city clerk in North Adams for several years before serving as the city clerk from 1951-1976. She also served as a city council member for two years.



Mildred was an active board member of the North Adams Hoosac Savings Bank, serving as a corporator from 1972-1995; the board trustees from 1975-1995; and the clerk of the corporation from 1985-1995. She was a member of the North Adams Country Club, and the Friends of North Adams Public Library. She enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, an avid reader, and enjoyed bowling in the Monday afternoon league. 



She was the widow of former North Adams Fire Captain, Esmonde John Manson, whom she married on November 26, 1938 at St. Francis Church. He died on February 20, 2002.



Survivors include her son, William D. Manson and his wife, Becky, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, including her granddaughter, Cassie Carmon of Lanesborough, who was her caregiver; several great-grandchildren; sister Marcel Remillard of New Hampshire; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 



She was predeceased by her son, Robert Esmonde Manson, who died on January 23, 1995; as well as her sisters Mary Ellen Meehan and Helen Richards and brothers Joseph, Ernest and William Roberts.



Funeral notice: A private graveside service to celebrate the life of Mildred Manson will take place in Southview Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
