Cecelia M. Garner, 87

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Cecelia Marie (LaDouceur) Garner, 87, of North Adams passed peacefully on May 11, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. 



She was born in Easthampton on June 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward and Corinne (Gaudet) LaDouceur. Cecelia was employed for several years as a certified nurse assistant at both Sweetbrook Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Sweetwood Retirement Community in Williamstown. 



She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. Cecelia was an active volunteer and past president of the Friends of the North Adams Public Library and assisted at the North Adams Tourist Booth. While living in Williamstown she was a member of the Harper Center and volunteered in the Reading Buddies Program at the Williamstown Elementary School.  



Cecelia was a great cook and baker and was known for her delicious oatmeal raisin cookies.



Her husband James A. Garner, whom she married October 4, 1947, at Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield, died March 2, 2008.



Survivors include her two loving daughters, Susan Watson and her husband Harry of North Adams and Wendy Champney and her husband Michael of North Adams; seven grandchildren, Tammy Giorgi, Eric Garner, Midge Moore, Betsy Parsley, Carly Skorupa, Mindy Chapman and Peter Kinnas Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edward LaDouceur and his wife Constance of Pittsfield. 



She was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Garner, who died in February of 2007; and a sister, Helen Sicotte.



Funeral notice: Funeral Services to celebrate the Life of Cecelia Garner will be celebrated Wednesday May 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. 



Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St. North Adams, are Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested for the St. Jude Children's Hospital through the funeral home.

Grandma Garner will always hold a special place in my heart. One of the strongest, most beautiful ladies I have ever known. She loved her family so very much and I know she is up there watching over all of us.
