David F. ‘Buddy’ Scrivens, 72

February 11, 2018


NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — David Frederick “Buddy” Scrivens, 72, of North Adams, Mass., died on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Williamstown Commons. 



He was born in North Adams on July 13, 1945 a son of the late William Henry and Isabelle Elizabeth (Potter) Scrivens. David attended schools in North Adams, including McCann Technical High School. He went on to graduate from the Ron Bailee School of Broadcasting in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Army National Guard. He was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia, as well as, Fort Jackson, South Carolina.



David was employed as an office worker for the State Employment Office in Pittsfield. Over the years, he also worked at Sports Industries in North Adams, Cascade Paper Co., Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, and General Electric Co. in Pittsfield. He officially retired in 1974.



In his younger years, he was instrumental in organizing Greylock Youth Services in association with his late father – including the Christmas program, Santa Clause for Youth.



David was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. He was also a member of the North Adams Democratic City Committee, the American Legion Post #125, as well as the Companionship Club. He loved all types of music, especially jazz, calypso, country western, and classical. 



Survivors include one sister, MaryJane Scrivens; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. 



He was predeceased by a sister, Dora Cohen.



Funeral notice: Graveside services for David "Buddy" Scrivens will take in the spring at the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, Mass.
