Nancy Casey, 85

February 02, 2018

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Nancy Payne Casey, formerly of North Adams, Mass., and Fortunes Rocks, Biddeford, Maine, passed away peacefully Friday, February 2, 2018.

Nancy was born in Worcester, Mass., on March 4, 1932, to Albert and Gladys Payne. She spent her childhood in Holden, Mass., and was a graduate of the Holden High School class of 1950. She went on to attend the North Adams Teachers College, graduating in 1954.

In 1955, Nancy married James W. Casey, who passed away in 2005. Nancy was a teacher in the schools of Northern Berkshire, retiring in 1994. Known to family as Mimi, she loved hosting friends and loved ones at her seaside home in Fortunes Rocks, Maine. Her grandchildren fondly remember spending endless hours combing the Granite Point beaches searching for sea glass and enjoying her famous Belgian waffles.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, bicycling, walking the beach, entertaining friends and family, and, most importantly, laughing and sharing stories around the dining room table with those she loved.

She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of North Adams.

Nancy leaves two sons, David and his wife Maribeth of Williamstown and Christopher and his wife Barbara of North Pownal, Vt.; two daughters, Jane Casey-Qua and her husband Richard of Richmond Hill, Ga., and Pamela Casey-Wohl and her husband Matthew of Wellesley; nine grandchildren, Conor, Elise, Carson and Lauren Casey, MacKenzie and Casey Qua, and Owen, Sydney and Benjamin Wohl; a nephew, Peter Emery; and a niece Caroline Emery.

The family would like to thank her caregivers at Fillmore Pond and Sweet Brook Nursing Home.

Funeral notice: At the family’s request, the burial service will be held privately at a later date. Donations can be sent to https://curealz.org/in-memory/nancy-casey, or Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley, MA 02481.
