John P. Macksey, 59
December 30, 2017
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Patrick Macksey, 59, of North Adams, Mass., died on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
He was born in North Adams on September 6, 1958, a son of Barbara (Downey) Macksey and the late Lawrence "Toddy" Macksey. He attended St. Joseph’s schools and went on to graduate from Drury High School with the Class of 1976. He was co-proprietor of Sentury Roofing and Siding.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara; his son Joseph (Samantha Tanner) and their two sons Tanner and Dylan; two daughters, Sarah and Hannah; his brother Peter (Pamela); nephew Rylan; his sister Susan; and niece Casey.
John lived his life to the fullest - skiing as fast as he could down the mountain, eating the spiciest of spicy foods, and zipping down the street on his motorcycle. If you needed your roof shoveled or an ear to bend, he was your man. He enjoyed leisurely drives around town (even if it meant being late to an appointment), trips to the dump with his grandsons and loved taking junk and turning it into treasures. His laughter, smile and adventurous heart will be deeply missed by both his family and friends.
Funeral notice: A private viewing will be held for family. A celebration of his life will be held this Friday, January 5, 2017, at the Holiday Inn North Adams from 3 to 6 p.m. Please bring your best John stories to share.
Burial will be in the spring in the family lot at Southview Cemetery. Donations can be made in his memory to Pop Cares or do as John would and say hello to fellow neighbor.

Max was instrumental in getting me and a couple buddies of mine, Tim and Dennis, in joining the men's summer soccer league way back in 1980. His keen oversight and knowledge of the game made me a better competitor and allowing the game he loved to be loved by us as well. Yet more importantly, it solidified a long and lasting friendship, whether on the pitch, the links, the basketball court,or wherever. Thank you Max, sorely missed! | from: Nuvo | on: 01-05-2018 |

Macksey was Macksey. Always watching out for his friends. I have fun memories golfing at Stamford on Tuesday nights. His laugh will stay with me as I recall the good times. He will be greatly missed by many. I extend my deepest sympathy to your family Macks. Play on as I know you will.
Sincerely,

Condolences to John's family and his many friends from the old days skiing at Dutch Hill. John was one of the madmen who could descend the super-steep Windmill and Christiana trails with little effort and looked forward to accidentally falling off the T-Bar to ski those adjacent trails when they were closed. John loved Dutch Hill so much that he curated an unofficial museum of memorabilia at their roofing company headquarters. In an era where many businesses last only a few years, his lifelong friendship with school & ski buddy Mark Hartman created a testament of starting and running an excellent company for decades with many, many returning customers. I will spend my next chairlift ride and ski run remembering John and thinking fondly of our "days at the old schoolyard" (Cat Stevens) which, for us, was Dutch Hill. | from: Bruce Whitney | on: 01-03-2018 |
