NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Aaron Benjamin Silsby, 33, of North Adams died on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at his home.
He was born in North Adams on March 12, 1984, a son of Sheila Marie (Marlowe), and the late J. Michael Silsby. Aaron attended schools in Clarksburg, Pine Cobble in Williamstown, and graduated from Drury High School in 2002. He attended City College in San Francisco, Calif. He went on to join the United States Navy in January of 2005, and was honorably discharged in August of 2012. While in the Navy he received several medals and awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Marine Overseas Service Ribbon and meritorious unit recommendations.
Aaron enjoyed working with children and adults as a swim instructor at the Northern Berkshire YMCA and as a ski instructor at several local ski areas. He began his love of both sports as he and his father enjoyed skiing throughout the United States and scuba diving in the Caribbean.
Survivors include his mother, Sheila Marie (Marlowe) Silsby; brother Joshua Joseph Silsby of Fairfax, Virginia; aunts and uncles; as well as cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, J. Michael Silsby.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Aaron Silsby will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams, Mass. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
Burial with military honors will take place in the family plot at Southview Cemetery at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to Soldier On.
I am sad to read of Aaron's passing. I worked with him as the director of the Starlight Stage Company in Williamstown some years ago in our production of "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". I enjoyed Aaron and always have remembered him. May he rest in peace.
