NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Roger Robert Malloy, 76, of Eagle Street, North Adams, died peacefully Saturday, October 28, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Adams, Mass., on April 24, 1941, a son of the late, Robert & Harselia (Lefaive) Malloy. Roger graduated from Williamstown High School and went onto the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. Roger served on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain during the May 5, 1961, official naval Freedom 7 recovery of Alan Shepard, the first American in space aboard the Project Mercury flight, and also met President John F. Kennedy while on board. He then was the manager of Cumberland Farms in North Adams for over 25 years, retiring in 2009.
Roger loved the Red Sox and New England Patriots. He attended St. Raphael’s Church in his younger years, serving as an altar boy.
Roger is survived by nine children, Roger “Butch” Malloy Jr. of Clarksburg, Nancy LaCasse of Pownal, Pamela Meczywor of North Adams, Michelle Beebe of Clarksburg, Michael Malloy of Reno, Nev., Robert Malloy of North Adams, Patrick Malloy of Boston, Ryan Malloy of North Adams and Marissa Malloy of North Adams. He also leaves 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Roberta Ann Skovera and her husband John of Williamstown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Mark Malloy; and his brother Michael Victor Malloy.
