Cyril 'Chappy' Gerry Jr., 88

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Cyril Lee "Chappy" Gerry Jr., 88, of North Adams, Mass., died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at North Adams Commons.



He was born in Readsboro, Vt., on October 26, 1928, son of Cyril Lee Gerry Sr. and Hazel (Rarick) Gerry.  He attended Readsboro Schools.



Cyril was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War and served in the US Army for 22 years until his honorable discharge as a sergeant first class. He then worked at Williams College for over 20 years until his retirement.



He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a member of the American Legion. Chappy enjoyed bowling and golf and was a member of the Stamford Valley Golf Course.



His first wife was Isabel (Lamarre) Gerry; she died in 1972. His second wife was Dorothy Theresa (Gingras) Rumbolt Gerry; she died on December 9, 2015.  They were married on July 18, 1976.



Survivors include one son, Brian A. Gerry of Adams; one daughter, Darlene C. Masse of Adams; two stepchildren, Beverly Henderson of California and Nancy Rumbolt Trzcinski of North Adams; five grandchildren, PFC Elias Masse USMC, Mckenzie Masse, Travis Gerry, Courtney Gerry and Amber Gerry;  two sisters, Arlene Hoyt of Readsboro, Vt., and Allene Caron of St. Benjamin, Canada; one brother, Donald Gerry of Readsboro, Vt.; and nieces and nephews.



His sister Sandra Haselton is deceased.



Funeral notice: The funeral for Cyril Gerry will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, Mass. Burial will follow in Millard Cemetery in Stamford, Vt.



A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 10-11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Soldier On in care of the funeral home.
