NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Stephen William Zwiercan, 66, of North Adams died on February 5, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass.
Stephen was born on May 31, 1950, in North Adams, a son of the late Joan (Zwiercan) and Walter Zwiercan.
Stephen attended schools in North Adams, and graduated from McCann Technical High School. He was employed for 31 years at General Electric/General Dynamics as a machinist, until his retirement.
He loved camping, playing darts, dice, and cards, and also loved gardening. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Stephen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Jean (Giroux) Zwiercan, whom he married at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington, Vt., on August 7, 1971; three daughters Stacy Lyn (Zwiercan) Pelletier of Aurora, Colo., MacKenzie Irene Zwiercan of Pownal, Vt., and Kari Lee (Zwiercan) McLain and her husband, Jeremy of Cheshire, Mass.; nine grandchildren, Sarah Marie Olson, Bradley Michael Pelletier, Corey Scott Pelletier, Connor Stephen Guertin, Dylan Gene Guertin, Makayla Morgan Guertin, Gavin Daniel McLain, Paityn Madison McLain and Olivia Jordan McLain; a sister Marion Dobbert; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Scott Michael Zwiercan, who died on June 29, 1974.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian burial for Stephen Zwiercan will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, North Adams. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place in the spring at Southview Cemetery. Donations may be made to PopCares through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals.
