MountainOne Finds New President And CEO

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Thomas S. Leavitt has been named president and chief executive officer of MountainOne Financial Partners effective Sept. 4, according to Dan Bosley, chairman of the MountainOne Board of Directors.     Leavitt will also assume a seat on the MountainOne Board.  Current MountainOne CEO Steve Crowe, who helped initiate the succession planning process, recently announced his retirement. Teen Pleads Not Guilty In Fatal Lee Accident

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - A teen driver had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on single counts of motor vehicle homicide while under the influence and speeding in a December 2011 accident that killed a 17-year-old passenger.

., of Lenox, was allegedly the operator of a vehicle that struck a tree on Greylock Street in Lee and killed 17-year-old Remy Kirshner.

He was released by Judge John Agostini on personal recognizance.
, 18, of Lenox was charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and operating to endanger and causing the death of another and one count of speeding.

Know Your Farmer Night in North Adams

Despite the snow there was a healthy turn-out for Hoosac Harvest's "Know your Farmer, Know your Food" night in North Adams.

Showcasing everything from apples to raw milk, farmers from around the region came out to offer samples and provide information about where and how to buy direct from local farms.

Wild Oats co-op served a root vegetable stew, Gammelgarden and Cricket Creek offered tastes of their local cheeses. Those who braved the snow could also taste honey from Berkshire Farms, Apples from Jaeschke's orchard and maple butter on cornbread muffins from Ioka farms.

AP-CNBC Poll: Cut federal services to balance the budget

According to a recent poll by the Associated Press and CNBC, Americans prefer cutting federal services to raising taxes by a 2-1 margin.

The poll "showed widespread anxiety about budget shortfalls exceeding $1 trillion a year." Hmmm. Go figure.

At the same time, the poll showed that "there is little consensus on specific, meaningful steps — and a wariness about touching two gargantuan programs, Social Security and Medicare."

The bottom line is this ... we can't keep borrowing a trillion dollars per year. At some point in time, the interest rates that people are going to demand to keep loaning us money are going to go up. We're becoming a bad credit risk. We
