Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day is being observed Monday, Oct. 13. As Columbus Day, it commemorates Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas on Oct. 12, 1492. As Indigenous Peoples Day, it commemorates the harm to their cultures and communities that followed Columbus' arrival. 

Columbus' voyage had been celebrated on significant anniversaries but did not become an official holiday until it was recognized by Colorado in 1905. It was declared a federal holiday in 1937.

BFAIR Launch Coat and Boot Drive for Local Veterans

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Community Based Day Services (CBDS) team, in partnership with BFAIR, has launched a Coat and Boot Drive to provide essential winter wear to local veterans ahead of the cold season.    This initiative supports the North Adams Veterans' Services Office, which identified warm outerwear and footwear as a critical need.   Organizers are collecting new or gently used men's and women's coats and boots that are in good condition.   Donation Drop-Off Locations (Now until Nov. 6, 2025): CBDS, 26 Roberts Drive, North Adams BFAIR Administrative Office, 771 South Church Street, North Adams BFAIR Pittsfield Office, 39 Willis

MCLA Physics Department to Host U.S. Department of Energy Physicist

North Adams Group Launches Nip Bottle Return Pilot Program

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A group of local partners launched an upcoming pilot program to help curb the amount of alcohol nip bottle litter in the City of North Adams and neighboring communities.    At a City Council meeting in September, Mayor Jennifer Macksey and Police Chief Mark Bailey presented the need for North Adams to prohibit the sale of nip bottles. This conversation sparked an initiative led by City Councilor Keith Bona and Benjamin Lamb from the NAMAzing Initiative, in collaboration with BFAIR. Wicked Strange New England With Jeff Belanger

MCLA's Environmental Lecture to Celebrate Center for Resourceful Living

North Adams Lions Club Hosts Pantry and Personal Item Drive

Dozens Compete in Fall Foliage 5K

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Joshua Miller Sunday won the annual Fall Foliage 5K, covering the course in just more than 21 minutes.   Miller hit the finish line in 21:05, setting a mile pace of 6:47, to win in a field of 35 finishers.   Second place went to North Adams’ Liv Dalton, who was the fastest female finisher with a time of 22:41.   Twenty men and 15 women competed in the race, part of the city’s Fall Foliage Festival. The race finished on Main Street just prior to the 69th Fall Foliage Parade.
