Keynote speaker state Sen. Benjamin Downing said everywhere he looks in Pittsfield, he sees something that Olver worked on.WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— The Northern Berkshire Community Coalition honored outgoing U.S. Rep. John W. Olver as a "hero" on Friday at its annual luncheon.
The annual Northern Berkshire Hero Award is presented to an individualor group who has made an impact on the quality of life in the area.Olver has been doing that for more than 20 years in Congress.

Mayor Richard Alcombright joined Walmart employees in the groundbreaking ceremonies. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — At the groundbreaking of the Walmart Supercenter on Friday morning at the construction site on Curran Highway, Mayor Richard Alcombright finally seized his opportunity to deliver a short, powerful phrase. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Local emergency responders and North Adams Regional Hospital on Wednesday held an emergency drill based on the scenario of a local company have a chemical spill.
The drill included about 10 "casualties" (young volunteers) ranging in age from infancy to 50-60 years old who either in the plant or passing by when the incident occurred. The drilled included transportation, triage, decontamination and emergency room treatment.
Participating were hospital personnel, the Fire Department (which operated the decontamination suite) and the North Adams Ambulance Service.
The hospital is required to hold various types of drills to prepare for a mass casualty

Factory jobs are returning to the United States. So far it is only a trickle but the point is that the trend has begun to reverse and that’s good for America.
The number of manufacturing jobs in this country has been growing over the last two years. Factories have added 300,000 jobs since 2009. In the first month of this year alone manufacturers have added 50,000 jobs, which was the biggest monthly increase in a year. Those numbers are positive and a good start but let's keep the gains in perspective.
Despite this recent progress, it still leaves us with 5.5 million fewer factory jobs than in July 2002 and 12 million less than we had in 1990. I don't believe we will ever recapture the 0 Comments Read More >> |

ADAMS, Mass. — A plastic sheet supplier and recycler is opening a new site in the Adams Corporate Park.
Optiglass PC LLC is a supplier of polycarbonate sheet and film, in association with bGreenplastic, a customized recycling service for plastic companies, both headquartered in North Carolina.
Rick Filiault, president and found of both companies, is a former account manager with GE Plastics.
Filiault said his goals is to "reawaken the foundation of plastic services in Berkshire County, and facilitate this process with passion and integrity."

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The John Giorgi Summer Basketball League opened its 31st season on Sunday with Sam G. defeating Sunshine Pool & Fence in OT 61 to 54.
For Sam G., Sam Garivaltis led the way with 25 points five boards and two blocks, Chris Geannelis had 13 points and Greg Payton had 12 points 11 boards and a block. For Sunshine, Brandon Hurst scored 12 points had six boards and a block, Rob Malloy 11 points 10 rebounds and a blocked shot while Nick Martinelli had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Federal Federal Credit has awarded 13 area college-bound high school students with $500 college scholarships as part of the credit union's Treat Everyone Better Than They Expect scholarship program.
Greylock's scholarships are presented to students who demonstrate an outstanding level of community service, volunteer work and an essay.
