We had an Asian salad withsalmon from The Local in North Adams. We usually have the HarvestChicken Salad — apple slices and gorgonzola cheese! — but we were in themood for different fruit, like mandarin oranges. Then we were offered the choice of chicken orsalmon. Salmon, of course. (BTW, if you're at The Hub, try the salmon sliders.) It's a definite recommend: the fish wasflaky and not overcooked, greens were crisp and the sesame dressingsweet. You also get a choice of apple or baguette. Good choice for a hot day.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — It will be burnin' temperatures to the east and northwest of the Berkshires over the next few days, but the county won't entirely escape the heat wave descending on the area.

The National Weather Service has released a heat advisory for the much of eastern New York and the Connecticut River Valley along the Vermont/New Hampshire border from noon to 8 on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 90s, with heat indices reaching 100 to 104 degrees on both Wednesday and Thursday in valley locations.

The heat index is a combination of air temperature and humidity that can create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible, according to NWS.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The road to Walmart will take some reconstruction.

Wm. J. Keller Construction Corp. will begin road work on Curran Highway (Route 8) about a mile past the current Wal-Mart, in the Department of Transportation right-away, beginning Monday, July 9.

This will cause major traffic delays on weekdays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The work is expected to take two to three months and the driving conditions during this time will be slow so plan accordingly and use extreme caution for the safety of drivers and workers.

This work will allow for ease of entering and exiting of the new Walmart Super Center, opening in April 2013.
