Academic role models: Spotlight on MCLA faculty
12:00AM / Friday, May 06, 2022

MCLA's primary focus for faculty is on teaching. But the 83 full-time faculty members who teach there are also publishing books and articles, conducting research, and heading unique, groundbreaking projects that combine academic disciplines.

In true liberal arts tradition, this academic work helps MCLA faculty members contribute to larger bodies of research, collaborate with other institutions, explore new ideas, and deepen their expertise. It also makes its way into the classroom, giving students opportunities to serve internships, co-author publications, and conduct experiments.

Just over a third of MCLA's faculty members joined the campus community in the past six years,

By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff
05:50PM / Thursday, May 05, 2022
BOSTON — North Adams' Don DelNegro was doing HIPAA before HIPAA was a thing.   The landmark Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 included, famously, a rule for protecting the privacy of patients.   Three years earlier, in 1993, DelNegro took over as the head trainer for the Boston Bruins, entering a world where — especially this time of year — privacy is a priority.   National Hockey League teams and players are famous for not talking about or revealing injuries during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.   As the B's top trainer for nearly three decades, DelNegro has been the guy who knows better than anyone what Boston players are

New opportunities for 529 plan owners
04:10PM / Tuesday, May 03, 2022
If you want to provide educational opportunities for your children or grandchildren, you may want to consider investing in a 529 plan. In recent years, this plan has gotten more flexible, and potentially more powerful, than ever.   A key benefit of a 529 plan is that earnings are generally tax free, provided the money is used for qualified educational expenses. As the owner of the plan, you can essentially name any beneficiary you want, and you're free to change the beneficiary as needed. Contribution limits are quite high, so you can put away considerable sums in a 529 plan – and you may want to, because college costs have risen steadily over the years. In fact, for the
