Letter: Macksey Is the Experienced Leader North Adams Needs
Letter to the Editor,
04:00PM / Thursday, October 23, 2025

To the Editor:

During this election season, it's important to reflect on the challenges faced both locally and beyond. Municipalities across the state are in need of much to sustain — increased affordable housing, repairs to infrastructure and ADA compliance; the creation, recruitment, or growth of businesses; increased tourism; and so much more. We need a leader who has years of municipal experience, dedication to the City of North Adams, and will unite us.

That experienced leader is Jennifer Macksey.

North Adams may be a small city by population, but it is clearly remarkably spirited. While all residents may not share the same views, it's important to recognize that we

Letter: Macksey Is Doing the Work
Letter to the Editor,
04:00PM / Thursday, October 23, 2025

To the Editor:

My career in public education spans over 32 years, including 18 years at the district office and 13 years as superintendent of schools for two communities. In that time, I have worked with several municipal leaders and each has brought their knowledge, expertise, and experience to the role of mayor. Because the education department is often the main agency connecting vulnerable families with services, schools serve a vital role in providing for the physical safety and emotional well-being of the children in the community.

The quality of education in a community impacts economic development and infrastructure, making the school
system important to all community

By Breanna Steele, iBerkshires Staff
02:44PM / Wednesday, October 22, 2025

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There's a shy kitten waiting at No Paws Left Behind for a family to love her.   iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.   Batina is a 6-month-old domestic shorthair mix who has only been at the shelter for a couple of weeks.   Batina and her brother, Piglet, who is already adopted, came from a home with an owner who had too many cats.    Volunteer Debbie Melle introduced us to Batina.   "She's a little shy at first, as you can see, she's not coming out of the kennel," she said. "Her brother would be flying out of the

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Airport Commission moved through its regular business Tuesday night, marking a significant step forward with the presence of a new manager, Andrew Franklin, and a fully functioning commission.   "It is cool to see that the band is back together here, and I think that is worth acknowledging and celebrating," said Andrew Fitch, new commissioner and city councilor. Letter: Ciolkowski Withdraws from North Adams School Committee Race
Letter to the Editor,
12:35PM / Wednesday, October 22, 2025

To the Editor:

My name is Chelsey Lyn Ciolkowski and I am on the 2025 ballot as a candidate for the North Adams School Committee. As a mom with children in the North Adams Public Schools, as a former educator and social worker, I have a very deep interest in our schools, our kids and our families.

Several months ago, I decided to run for a seat on the School Committee. I took out and filed my papers and my name was placed on the ballot. Several weeks later, a job within the district as a school adjustment counselor was posted and I applied. That decision was made with much thought around what was best for me and my family … and a way that I could very directly serve the system.

Clarksburg Officials Ponder Independence From School Union
By Tammy Daniels, iBerkshires Staff
05:55AM / Tuesday, October 21, 2025
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Select Board is questioning how equitable the Northern Berkshire School Union is in terms of costs and representation.    The town covers 54 percent of the administrative costs for the union but has the same votes as the other four school districts and, in some cases, may pay more in terms of services for certain positions.    "Is there a benefit if we did explore independence?" asked Select Board member Colton Andrews at the most recent School Committee meeting. "We're kind of at a crossroads, and every year it's this financial back and forth ...    "I think to an extent, to either quiet some of the

To the editor:

Please join me in support of Jennifer Macksey for mayor of the City of North Adams.

After working closely with her over the last two terms as a sitting City Council member, I am proud of all that has been accomplished and am very much looking forward to the future and what is yet to be achieved. Her dedication to the city is unwavering. As past chair of Public Services, I like to go out on site to visit our hard-working crews and express my thanks. I am not surprised when I see her there doing the same. Appreciation goes a long way.

The city is in forward motion with many things that have been on the to-do list that have either been checked off or
are in motion. Dating back
