Weekend Outlook: ThunderFest Returns Sunday

There are a variety of events in Berkshire County this weekend including Thunderfest, Easter Bunny Train Rides, live music, and more.    Editor's Pick   ThunderFest  Adams Visitor Center Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.   The annual outdoor festival celebrating the historic Thunderbolt Trail and Race returns bringing live music, a campfire and marshmallows, local craft beer and wine, food, outdoor recreation, craft exhibitors, and more. (Note the event has been moved to Sunday because of weather.)   The event is fun for the whole family, including leashed pets. Admission is free. NAPS Holds Forum on School Closure, New Grade Configuration

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Superintendent Barbara Malkas answered questions and corrected misinformation in a community forum regarding the closing of Greylock Elementary School.   Malkas took the first half hour of the forum Wednesday to present some facts about the budget and financial realities moving the district toward closing Greylock.   "I want to start by saying no superintendent, no school committee members, nobody wants to be in this position," she said in Brayton Elementary's Welcome Center. North Adams Plans to Release an Improved RFP for Airport Restaurant

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Airport Commission voted to re-release the request for proposals (RFP) for the airport restaurant space but only after the city formed a new and improved document.   Chairman Marc Morandi said Tuesday that instead of re-releasing the same RFP, he wants to work with people in the restaurant business to form an improved packet that may be more enticing to restaurateurs.    "I know we have put out a couple of RFPs in the past that have not faired well when they hit the streets," he said. Mass MoCA Shifts Hours After Union Rejects Offer

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art will close an extra day a week after striking workers rejected the latest offer.    The museum will close Monday "to allow managers covering shifts during this period to rest," according to an update on the museum's website. The museum is closed on Tuesdays normally and beginning next week, will also close on Wednesdays through April.    Local 2110 of the United Auto Workers went out on strike March 6 after months of negotiations over wages broke down with museum administration. The union is seeking to raise the hourly minimum rate to $18.25 back to October 2023 and a minimum 4.5

Northern Tier Passenger Rail Study Information Meeting

Select Board Seat Open in Clarksburg Election

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — There are no candidates yet for the Select Board with one week to go before nomination papers are due.    Jeffrey Levanos, who was the only candidate in a special election in 2021, will not run for another term.    Levanos had previously said he was done with public service after serving three terms on the School Committee and two on the Select Board, including being chairman of each at the same time for a period. Authorities Search in Williamstown for Missing Eastern Mass Resident

Geothermal System Recommended for New Greylock School

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The new Greylock School may get a geothermal system that could significantly reduce operating costs in the years to come.    Jessie Saylor of the project's designer, TSKP Studios, updated the School Building Committee on Tuesday of some of the working group's findings regarding energy efficiencies.   Installing a geothermal system, which uses water heated by the earth, is estimated at $2.7 million. North Adams Holding Forum on Greylock Closure
