School Officials Review Brayton Issues in School Project Info Session

Brayton Elementary Classrooms Treated for Mold, Mildew

Mayor Jennifer Macksey and Facilities Director Robert Flaherty on Wednesday pull up the carpeting in the first-floor classroom at Brayton recently treated for mildew. Classes start on Thursday. : per Superintendent Barbara Malkad via Facebook, "Today [Aug. 28] we removed all items from the room where the mildew on the equipment was found. The walls were inspected - no mold or mildew was found. The rug was pulled up - no mold was found on the floor underneath or the underside of the carpeting. The only mildew found was on equipment used in the OT/PT room. This equipment was cleaned again and dried outside. With that said the floor is still going to be replaced and the walls

Millers, Thunder Win Berkshire Adult Baseball League Titles

The Berkshire Thunder and GB Millers each swept their way to Berkshire Adult Baseball League titles over the weekend.   At Wahconah Park on Sunday, the Thunder edged the Dalton Moneymakers, 6-5, to wrap up their best-of-three championship series in the 33-and-over division of the BABL.   The Thunder, which won the opener, 6-1, on Saturday, got a strong pitching performance from three different players in Game 2.   Joe Bateman, Cory Hillard and Seamus Morrison combined to allow just two earned runs in the title clincher.   Hillard got the win with four innings of work in relief, scattering four hits and allowing all five runs -- three unearned as the Thunder committed

Body of Missing Readsboro Man Found

READSBORO, Vt. — A missing Readsboro man was found inside his car, down an embankment in Whitingham.    Harold Lavanway, 73, was reported missing by family on Sunday. He was last seen on Friday at approximately 10 p.m. by a neighbor traveling south toward the Monroe Bridge area in Massachusetts.    His gray 2011 Honda Civic was discovered off Tunnel Street in Whitingham early Monday morning and State Police were notified. They confirmed that Lavanway was in the vehicle and deceased.   Initial investigation by VSP shows that Lavanway was northbound on Tunnel Street and navigated a lefthand curve in the roadway. 2nd Street Executive Director To Speak at Triad Meeting

Stops marked along the way to the Hudson river.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A city councilor is paddling his way up the Hoosic River to raise funds for the Hoosic River Revival.   Andrew Fitch took the waters on Tuesday for his third annual long-distance summer vacation adventure and fundraiser. Temescal Facing Eviction From North Adams Plant

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Two years ago Temescal Wellness cut the ribbon on a $21 million cannabis cultivation facility on Curran Highway with much fanfare.    Now the property owners are trying to evict the business for nonpayment of rent.    The Berkshire Eagle on Thursday reported the lawsuit filed in Berkshire Superior Court last month by IIP-MA 7 LLC,  limited liability company based in California. The company bought the former Crane Stationery plant for $3.1 million in May 2021 and entered into a 20-year leasing agreement with Temescal a month later.    In court filings on July 3, IIP-MA 7 LLC claims Temescal failed to make payments in excess of

New School Project Info Session Set at Brayton

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The School Building Committee is continuing efforts to get information out about the Greylock School project ahead of a debt exclusion vote on Oct. 8.    The first of two information sessions was held last week; the second is this Thursday at Brayton Elementary School at 6 p.m. There will also be a virtual component for residents unable to attend.    Residents can also attend a coffee klatsch on Friday morning at the Eagle Street parklet.
