Submitted by Edward Jones,
08:18AM / Tuesday, March 29, 2022
When you reach the appropriate age, it’s easy to apply for Social Security retirement benefits – just go to Social Security’s website, fill out the online form and you’re essentially done. But many people overlook the next step – completing Form W-4V, which asks you how much federal income tax you want withheld from your benefits. And if you skip this step, you could face an unpleasant surprise when it’s tax-filing time, because Social Security benefits can indeed add to your taxable income.   Here are the details: …If your "combined" income is between $25,000 and $34,000, you may have to pay income tax on up to 50 percent of your

By Tammy Daniels, iBerkshires Staff
12:50PM / Monday, March 28, 2022
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The chair of the Select Board resigned Monday with the intent to apply for the treasurer/collector position that the town's been unable to fill.   Danielle Luchi, elected in 2019, has been the town's MVP over the past six months or so. She was the lone Select Board member for weeks after both her colleagues quit last fall and found herself increasingly stepping into vacant positions to keep the town operating, including working in the treasurer's office.    Luchi noted the office "has struggled to keep afloat over the past year" and thanked the assistant treasurer, town clerk and accountant — as well as part-time and

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
