NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The 61-year-old Veterans Memorial Bridge has been declared "structurally deficient" after the most recent inspection by the state Department of Transportation. The city's Department of Public Services in a Facebook post on Thursday said the state has issued weight limit restrictions and lane closures.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The average residential property tax bill will go up by $103.85 for fiscal year 2024 under a tax distribution plan OK'd by the City Council on Tuesday. On a vote of 6-2, the eight members in attendance chose to follow the path recommended by the Board of Assessors and use a 1.715 shift differential from the residential to the commercial class of real estate. That is the same differential the council authorized last year for FY23 after lengthy debate that stretched over two meetings and a 5-4 vote. This time around, Councilors Marie T. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9144 played Santa Claus on Sunday (with a little help from the jolly old elf) at the town's tree lighting. The post handed out nearly $10,000 in donations to worthy organizations. Santa arrived on a fire truck with the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department and was greeted with cheers but a large crowd of children. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announced it has received the Garrett Lee Smith (GLS) Suicide Prevention Grant for $306,000 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Over the next three years, this funding will launch the MCLA Cares Project, an initiative to build campus-wide infrastructure to support student mental health. The MCLA Cares Project will utilize a multi-pronged approach to address mental health support deficits across campus.
